SAM Magazine–June 16, 2011–Recent plans to lease ski area operations at Cannon Mountain, N.H., will be put on hold for at least a year. Cannon is owned by the State of New Hampshire and many in the state’s Senate were pushing to lease the area under a similar model to Mount Sunapee, which is owned by N.H., but the long-term lease is owned by the group that also owns Okemo and Crested Butte, among other resorts.
Opponents to the proposed lease claimed that Cannon had become a successful operation that produced a profit.
The House and Senate reached the agreement to shelve the plan in order to push forward a balanced budget for the state.
