SAM Magazine-Twin Bridges, Calif., Dec. 22, 2008-Sierra-at-Tahoe has received USFS approval to incorporate Huckleberry Canyon into the resort’s boundary. The 350-acre zone was accessible via backcountry access gates last season but will now be subject to control work, rescue operations and closures based upon the resort’s ski patrol assessment of the area. The terrain is classified as double black diamond.

The Adult Ski & Snowboard School will offer advanced skiers and snowboarders the option to explore Huckleberry Canyon in group and private lessons if instructors believe the guests can handle the terrain. In addition, the resort’s school will offer a 2.5 hour Backcountry Awareness Course that will include an introduction to out-of-bounds skiing, avalanche beacon training, terrain training and route finding.
